winter ice storm

So sorry to have to post this today, but the ice storm is preventing me from opening shop as scheduled. We live about 8 miles north of Manhattan in the hills and roads can get bad. In the almost 17 years we've lived here, it's never kept us homebound, but this morning is another story. One way out is blocked by ice-packed trees, poor things- and my car won't make it up the other way (think steep hill).

But, hey- at least - so far- we have power! I'm sure it's out in many nearby areas, so I'm wishing you all a safe, warm spot to curl up and knit today! I've got lots of projects here at home... doing a modular vest adapted from my mini-mitered cardigan in a color scheme I can wear (unlike the mini-mitered cardigan...) plus I'm working on a scarf and cardigan with Plymouth Tweed-the cardigan will be intarsia and the scarf (most likely my project for today) is log cabin and stripes.

Hey- just realized my camera is home with me today, too- maybe I can get some pics up later....

Happy Knitting, everyone. And please know I'd never close shop except for extreme conditions such as this.

knitting for peace- sundays at wildflower

almost forgot to mention... we've had great response for our charity knitting projects on sundays (3pm every sunday-). Join us when you can or email me if you want the current pattern we're working on. Last week we worked from Janet Szabo's Chemo Toque and we'll continue with that this week as well. Every two weeks I'll track down another pattern (always have a crochet one available, too) and keep working one stitch at a time. The chemo caps will be distributed at our local hospital to those undergoing chemo.

gwen bortner reception

Join our party this friday at 7pm to welcome Gwen Bortner. Gwen is teaching Intro to Entrelac on Saturday. We'll have great company, food and double stamps on Wildflower purchases all weekend long...

my soysilk buddies

Meet SOYphia and LanceSOYlot! Aren't they adorable? I was having a particularly bad day last week (email/computer issues) and in the midst of it all I opened a box to see these sweet little faces and it really brightened my day!

They're from the Land of Tofu! and are made of 100% soysilk exterior- you just have to give them a hug when you're in!

new yarn in

Here's a look at the newest yarn in the shop. It's Harrisville's new bulky 100% virgin wool in beautiful heathered shades- 18 colors. I added it online this morning, but may need to re-photograph as the colors don't look as rich as they should. I think this photo is better, though. Of course, the best view is from inside the shop! I'm partial to the blues and greens, of course. This is another one of those yarns that makes me want to design something using every color...

welcome to my blog

This is a little reminiscent of my first painting class, when the canvas was all stretched and primed and oh, so empty and beautiful. I never have a problem beginning to knit- not even when I don't have a clue what will come off the needles- it just evolves... but the big blank canvas is a real hurdle for me. Maybe it's because as knitters, we can erase to perfection by simply unraveling- I'm fearless with my knitting...

So... help me if you can- what would you like to see in wildflower's blog? I'm envisioning pictures of new products as they arrive and designs as they evolve- inspirations as they come- any other ideas?
We do have lot's of exciting classes lined up at Wildflower for September - check out the listings at http://www.wildflowerknits.com/!
